A Writing Box (Suzuribako) and Matching Writing Table (Bundai)
20th century, signed Sekiguchi Shuho saku
The writing box and table each designed in gold and silver hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and togidashi embellished with hirame and nashiji against a bright kinji ground, the writing box with a slightly overhanging cover with rounded edges and corners and decorated with chrysanthemums, bamboo and young pines, the underside of the cover designed with autumn grasses and flowers against a nashiji ground, the interior of the box with a removable tray decorated with a continuation of the design on the underside of the cover and fitted with a circular silver water dropper cast and carved as a chrysanthemum floret, the removable rectangular inkstone lacquered fundame on the edges, with two writing brushes, paper knife, paper pricker and inkstick holder, silver rims; the writing table set on four bracket feet and decorated on the top surface with chrysanthemums, bamboo and young pine next to a stream with rocky banks, the silver hardware finished with a finely stippled surface
