A Pair of Soft-Metal Inlaid Bronze Presentation Vases
Meiji period (late 19th century)
Cast in bronze and set on a raised foot with the bottom edge finished in a "swirling cloud" apron punctuated with demon masks, the shoulders applied with mandarin duck handles, the vases decorated with large oval panels with the deities Fugen and Monju or birds in flowering trees all carved in low relief and finished in gold, copper and shakudo inlays, the foot decorated with a formal standing leaf band and the neck and shoulder with sho medallions and geometric bands, all in gold, silver and copper flush inlays
