The oval plate with beaded surround, the frame elaborately carved with dancing putti on a pierced vine clad cresting, centred to the base by an infant Pan flanked by musical attributes, with partially effaced indistinct signature to the lower-right

Lot Essay

This mirror relates to the work of the sculptor Valentino Besarel (1829-1902) who was awarded a gold medal at the 1878 Paris Universelle Exposition and made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. A comparable mirror (illustrated) was shown at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition.
