Lot Essay

Characteristic of Saint Laurent's attention to detail, this simple dress with it's carefully appliquéd flowers particularly evokes the elaborate floral applied decoration of Christian Dior's 1947-57 evening gowns. Saint Laurent learned his craft at Dior's maison, and though their styles varied considerably, this is a fascinating glimpse into that relationship.
