Nénin was owned by the Despujol family until 1997 when it was bought by the Delon family , the owners of Château Léoville-Las-Cases. They expanded the property with the purchase of a four hectare parcel from Certan-Giraud and have invested in new plantings, improving drainage, trellising and constructing a new chai which was completed in 2004. The vineyard is south-west facing and located on a high plateau, where the soils are a mixture of deep gravels and sand. Nenin is a blend of 70 Merlot and 30 Cabernet Franc The grapes are no longer machine-harvested which was common in the 1980's and are then fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel vats. The wine is then matured in oak casks (25 new) for up to 18 months. Annual production is approximately 110,000 bottles and the second wine is called Fugue de Nénin.

Château Nénin--Vintage 2000
Pomerol
Tasting Note: This wine has turned out exceptionally well, and to my thinking, is the finest Nénin yet made under the Delon administration. A blend of 65 Merlot and 35 Cabernet Franc, the opaque purple-coloured 2000 boasts corpulent, thick, juicy, jammy black fruits redolent with flavours of blackberries, cherries, and plums. Hints of liquorice, truffles, and subtle wood are present as well. There is also tremendous opulence, thickness, and structure. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 146, April 2003.
