The label has a heart around the name of the Château because Nicolas-Alexandre, the Marquis de Ségur and former owner not only of this property but also Château Latour and Lafite, said that his "heart was with Calon". The estate is planted with 65 Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 Merlot and 15 Cabernet Franc. The soil which is up to 5 metres deep consists of gravel mixed with sand, limestone and clay. The vineyard is enclosed by a white limestone wall (called clos in Burgundy), which is unusual for Bordeaux. The wines are fermented for between 2 and 3 weeks at 28 - 30 degrees in 100 hectolitre stainless steel vats and then aged in oak barriques (approximately half are new oak) for bewteen 18 and 20 months.
