Probably Balthasar Schouten, son-in-law of the artist, mentioned in his inventory of 1682, as part of a series of twelve, no. 31: "Twaalf Stukken van de Passie, 60.,-". Probably Jacob Cromhout and Jaspar Loskart; Sale, Amsterdam, 7 May 1709, lot 110: "12 stuks van de Passy Christi, van Klaas Moyjart".

Lot Essay

The present lot are two pictures of a series of twelve, depicting the Passion of Christ, of which the location has been untraced since the Jacob Cromhout Sale in 1709. One other picture of the series, the Entombment, was offered at Anon. Sale, Tenner Heidelberg, 14 November 1964, lot 3682, with ill. From all twelve panels photographs are recorded in the RKD.
