Lot Essay

Most jolami are attributed to either the Tekke or Yomut tribes with the most common having the design woven in pile upon a flat-woven ground. There are however a small number of highly valued all-pile examples.
A similar example is illustrated in black and white in Uwe Jordan, Oriental Rugs, Volume 5, Turkoman, Augsburg, 1989, p.180, pl.135. For further literature refer to Eiland and Shockley, Tent Bands of the Steppes, Exhibition catalogue, Moscow, no.65.
