Lot Essay

The five Chinese characters read as,The heated chamber of Ningshou Palace. The Ningshou Palace, usually translated in English as the Palace of Tranquil Longevity, was where the Qianlong Emperor (1736-95) resided within the Forbidden City after his abdication until his death in 1799.
