of fine metallic silver tapestry, woven with vivid greens and pinks in a motif featuring owls and other birds, comprising a pincushion, knife case and purse on salmon-pink silk cord; together with two further cords and tassels
pincushion: 3 x 2.5in. (7.6 x 6.3cm.)
knife case: 8.5in. (21.6cm.) and
purse: 6in. (15.24cm.)

Lot Essay

Possibly Mortlake tapestry, this extremely rare and fine set are in outstanding condition. They are quite similar in motif and construction to the knife case on plate XXI of Seligman and Hughes, 'Domestic Nedlework', a Mortlake example.
