Lot Essay

It has been suggested that the present work was painted on the Thames. Gunn stayed with W. B. Paterson in Warwick Avenue in September 1915 and sketched on Hampstead Heath, as well as at Kew, Richmond and Twickenham. This work is likely to relate to that time, before Gunn went to fight in France.
