Lot Essay

This sofa table's geometric brass-inlaid border, commonly referred to at the time as 'buhl inlay' to connect it to its French inspiration, relates to the work of George Oakley (d.1841), a London cabinet-maker who worked from 1789-1815 and earned the prestigious Royal Warrant in 1799.
