The stepped spreading pediment above a geometric frieze and central cupboard door applied with a dancing muse over a pair of caryatids, the curved sides each set with a bowed glazed cupboard door opening to three shelves, the angles headed with espagnolette busts, on short foliate-hipped cabriole legs tapering to scrolled sabots, the reverse stencilled HUGNET/AMEUBLEMENTS/PARIS/69 FAUBOURG ST. ANTOINE[...] and MAPLE/432

Lot Essay

Alexandre E. Hugnet, son of the cabinet maker Ainé Hugnet, succeeded his father at his Faubourg Saint Antoine atelier in 1880. He was awarded a Silver Medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle.
