Canted rectangular, the base, sides, and cover all set with glazed miniatures in the manner of Boucher, surrounded by vari-color gold borders enclosing panels of malachite, marked inside base, side, and cover and on bezel; also with two later French control marks

Lot Essay

A similar French gold-mounted malachite snuffbox by Paul-Nicolas Menière, inset with chased gold panels and with a gold and enamel border, sold Sotheby's, London, 27 May 2004, lot 165.
