SUPERLATIVE WHITE BURGUNDY

Property of a West Coast Consigner and friend to Christie's.

The hallmark of any great collection is the passion and focus of the person that created it. Cellar become the doppelganger of the collector; "organized, thoughtful and precise" or "exuberant, eclectic and deep". The adjectives in the case of this consigner and his wine collection are one and the same "passionately overflowing, reflective of a deep knowledge, and worthy of admiration."
This small selection of White Burgundy represents only a fraction of the timeless masterpieces quietly slumbering in their consigner's packed cellar. Another series of lots from the same consigner will be available for purchase in the November 21st Evening Sale of the Finest and Rarest.

Stored in pristine home and professional storage at a constant 53 degrees with humidity control. Removed for this sale by Christie's specialists and moved under constant temperature control.

MARQUIS DE LAGUICHE

The Marquis de Laguiche owns 2 hectares in Le Montrachet which is sold entirely to Joseph Drouhin. The two entities work together to develop a strict viticulture program executed by the Marquis' staff while Drouhin handles the harvest, vinifies and bottles the wines. The vines are from a special parcel on the Puligny side of Montrachet giving the fruit classic mineral, pear and white flowers notes. This results in a highly expressive wine full of character and one of the longest lived, intense and magnificent of all white burgundies. Only around 100 cases are imported in the United States each year.
Montrachet--Vintage 1985
Côte de Beaune, Marquis de Laguiche, Drouhin
Wonderfully expressive and remarkably fine and complex aromas that are fully mature but still quite fresh and vibrant are followed by round, sweet, rich, deep flavors of considerable muscle and power yet there is impeccable balance and super length. This is drinking perfectly now and I would not expect further improvement; that said, this is also holding well and should continue to do so over the next 5 to possibly 10 years. Tasted multiple times, including 3 times in '03. BH Oct 2004
3 bottles per lot
