Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and raised steel Breguet numerals in 1941 and its subsequent sale on 9 March 1942.

This watch is only the second example of a reference 1504 in stainless steel to appear in public to date and furthermore the only one fitted with such charismatic two-tone silvered dial. Consigned by a private collector and never been offered at auction before, it combines several highly popular elements, such as a stainless steel case and the extremely attractive and sought after two-tone silvered dial with applied Breguet numerals, all confirmed b the Extract from the Archives. The watch is furthermore preserved in very good, original overall condition.

Interestingly, the very first reference 1504 in stainless steel to appear in public was sold in this saleroom on 12 November 2007, lot 90. It featured a black dial with applied Breguet numerals.

An example of a Calatrava reference 570 fitted with a comparable two-tone silver dial and Breguet numerals is illustrated in Patek Philippe - Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 169. The celebrated model and its charismatic dial served as inspiration for the creation of the platinum Calatrava model, reference 5169P.
