Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1962 and its subsequent sale on 26 July 1962. Although, according to the Extract, the present watch was sold with a leather strap, the gold bracelet is dated 2.62, the year of manufacture of the watch, and was therefore most certainly added immediately upon its purchase.

This watch is believed to be the only example of a reference 3440 retailed by Tiffany & Co. to appear in public to date.

Production of reference 3440 was launched in 1961 and remained in production until the late 1960s. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 221, pl. 355.
