In a review of Fuss's 1999 solo show introducing the series My Ghost, New York Times art critic Roberta Smith wrote: 'The most impressive works are a series of large photograms in which [he] captures the roiling, erupting energy of smoke, giving the immaterial an almost scary solidity...Most of all they offer in a new form the quality that is Mr. Fuss's strength: breathtaking visual extravagance born of a combination of pure controlled chance and superb control.'
