Lot Essay

The present panels can be compared to the side panels of the Saint John altarpiece by Johann Koerbecke in the Westfälisches Landesmuseum in Münster, showing the 'Baptism of Christ' and 'Salome with the Head of Saint John the Baptist', (see P. Pieper, Die deutschen, niederländischen und italenischen Tafelbilder bis um 1530, Münster, 1990, p. 181).
