Lot Essay

The camel in this study derives from the painting Kameel in het park van Versailles (Camel in the park at Versailles) of 1956 (now in Museum Boymans-Van Beuningen, Rotterdam) and the background can be found in Zebra's in rood rotslandschap (Zebras in red rocky landscape) (now in Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam) of 1958. He never executed a painting as depicted in this lot.
