Lot Essay

The carpet, woven in an earthen-red trellised-mosaic and wreathed by festive ribboned bands with an oval medallioned compartment in Louis XVI 'antique' fashion, celebrates the fruitfulness of the Earth Element. Flowered Vitruvian wave-scrolls, wreathed in Roman foliage, support Cybeles cornucopiae that accompany the palm-flowered and water-bubbled cartouches displayed in the hollowed corners.
