In the manner of William Kent, late 19th century
The later rectangular eared verde antico marble top above a foliate and Greek key-pattern frieze on lion mask monopodia supports with scrolled feet and stepped plinths, the underside of the top inscribed 'A' and the frieze with a depository label inscribed 'Ackroyd 82'

Lot Essay

The marble-topped sideboard-table, with Greek-key architectural motif and lion-mask scrolled pilasters, is designed in the George II 'Roman' fashion associated with Inigo Jones (d.1652) and the Rome-trained artist/architect William Kent (d.1748) (see Issac Ware, Designs of Inigo Jones and others, 1731). The Greek-key motif features prominently on a Kent design of 1744 for a pedestal table at Chiswick House (see P.Ward-Jackson, English Furniture Designs of the Eighteenth Century, London, 1958, pl.15).
