The present necklace bears a strong resemblance to the original watercolour sketch of an exquisite emerald and sapphire necklace designed by Cartier Paris in 1928. Suspending thirteen elliptical faceted sapphires from an emerald and sapphire bead neckchain, this necklace was purchased the same year by the legendary Daisy Fellowes. In 1936, all of the stones of this necklace were reused in her famous Cartier 'collier hindou'. Heiress to the Singer sewing machine fortune, Daisy Fellowes was christened the 'best dressed woman' in the world by Parisian couturiers of the times.
