Château Léoville-Las-Cases--Vintage 2000
Saint-Julien, 2me cru classé
Tasting Note: The grand vin was 35.19 of the total crop; the final blend was Cabernet Sauvignon 76.8 Cabernet Franc 14.4 and Merlot 8.8 - no Petit Verdot or press wine. Aroma of deep bramble and cedar, touch of raspberry (ripe Cabernet Franc); surprisingly sweet, ripe fruit, good length, fragrant, tannic and acid finish. Fabulous wine. It was difficult enough in Monsieur Alain Delon's day to gain access to his chais his son has inherited this curious obstinacy, though I perfectly understand how tiresome endless interruptions can be, particularly if there are just trippers doing the rounds. Steven Spurrier and I rely on Isabelle Bachelard to get us in! Worth the effort. At the château, March 2001(*****) A great future. See also lot 426
