Title and 100 lithographed plates on India paper, extra-illustrated with a hand-coloured folding map, and an additional example of the first divisional title laid-in, this one coloured and stamped 'Bibliothèque de San Donato'. (Lacking half-title, the first few leaves on stubs, a few tears some of these repaired, spotting throughout mostly in the mounts and text.) Contemporary red morocco, sides with borders in blind and gilt, printed endpapers (rebacked preserving the original spine, corners repaired). Provenance: Gibraltar Garrison Library (bookplate ca. 1848-55 listing Major General R.W. Gardiner as Governor; cancelled shelf-marks).

FIRST EDITION, IN CONTEMPORARY RED MOROCCO, of some of the finest 19th-century illustrations relating to Southern Russia; this copy extra-illustrated with a large hand-coloured folding map of Demidov's itinerary. Brunet II, 583; cf. Atabey 337 (for the 8° edition of 1840).
