A hanging scroll, after Jiang Tingxi (1669-1732), 19th century
painted in ink and colours on paper, depicting a turnip with nine roots along side a ruyi spray -- 51in. x 23in. (129.5cm. x 58.9cm.), with long inscription and signature, sealed, with collectors seal purporting to be of the Emperor Qianlong (1736-95).

It was believed that with nine roots, the turnip was symbolic of the largesse of the Heavens, reflecting the auspicious rule of the country by the Emperor Yongzheng (1723-35).
