A LARGE BRONZE FIGURE OF ZHENWU, DATED 1544, JIAJING PERIOD
the Daoist warrior God seated upon a sectional throne, wearing long flowing robes over an ornate breast plate decorated in high relief with a dragon in flight amongst scrolling clouds, his right hand to his knee with his finger pointing to the floor, seated on a high angled throne pierced with quatrefoil apertures and with dragon-head finials to the corners, a tortoise and snake intertwined at the figures feet echoing the gods original form, incised to the back of the figures robe 'Jiajing ershi san nian wu yue shi er ri zhao zao', (Made by Zhao on the twelth day of the fifth month of the 23rd year of Jiajing), the second reading 'Sheng xiang yi tang gong qi zun' (Seven idols in all for the Temple Hall) -- 18¾in. (47.5cm.) high.
