A KAWARI KABUTO
SIGNED SHIGEKATSU, Edo Period (17th century)
The kawari-kabuto russet iron helmet of distinctive 'Nanban' form, of six riveted plates, three-tiered iron shikoro with large leather-covered fukigaeshi, the whole engraved with leaves, scrolling, and dragons among waves with silver and gold inlay, on the front an applied iron roundel of a dragon with gilt details.
