Amund Dietzel
Hand-crafted, Art-Deco style chest, with hand-painted glass inlay, created by legendary tattoo artistAmund Dietzel, for use in his tattoo parlor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The cabinet features the name A. DIETZEL carved into the frontpiece of the cabinet, and is accompanied by an image of Dietzel in his shop with the piece.

Born in Denmark in 1890, Dietzel went to sea in the early part of the 20th Century and it is there that he learned the art of tattooing. After shipwrecking in America, the teenage Dietzel began tattooing professionally and by 1916 had his own shop in Milwaukee. Over the next six decades, Dietzel would become a legend in his own time, influencing generations of tattoo artists. He is considered one of the "Old Masters" of the art form.

The chest has gone through some changes over the years, as evidenced by the accompanying image. A clock has been removed (and replaced by a pane of hand-painted glass), as have two doors which were attached to the sides of the cabinet. The chest has also been wired for electricity. 28x22in.
