The domed canopy hung with swags of droplets with pear-shaped pendants, above a central baluster column and shaped tapering receiving bowl lined in gold foil, issuing eight branches with finials hung with swags of droplets, the lower bowl issuing eight S-shaped branches with hexagonal dished drip-pans and nozzles hung with swags of droplets, with lower canopy and pear finial, the wooden block of each receiving bowl and branch tips incised with Roman numerals I-VIII, restorations and replacements including four lower arms and one upper cup replaced

Lot Essay

The shape of the receiving-bowl lined in gold foil is similar to chandeliers produced in the Low Countries in the middle of the eighteenth-century. A chandelier with similar branches and droplets is in the dining-room at Château de Hex, Belgium (Châteaux de Belgique, 1967, p. 114).
