Lot Essay

Claude-Antoine Tardy is recorded as a painter of flowers at Sèvres from 1757-1795, making this an early example of his work. Fromager were produced in two sizes and with two variations of feet - ball and tapering square. The present dish is an example of the smaller size. For an example of the larger size (with ball feet), see Christie's, New York, 5 May 1999, lot 10.
