Elizabeth Bergner received a Best Actress nomination at the Academy Awards for her role as Gemma Jones in the 1935 film Escape me Never. She is considered by several critics to be the inspiration for the character of Margo Channing in Joseph L. Mankiewicz's classic film, All About Eve.
