Fonseca--Vintage 1945
Slightly corroded capsules. Very bin-soiled and damaged labels. Levels into neck
Vintage note: The first end-of-war vintage was of superb quality, although, as in other European wine regions, the quantity was small. The growing season was perfect, although great heat at harvest time created some vinification problems resulting in some over-high volatile acidity. With rare exceptions all were Oporto-bottled. Twenty-two shippers, Cockburn the only major abstention. These tauntly constructed, concentrated wines are still superb - if they have been well cellared. *****. Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine
