Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel--Vintage 1990
Rhône. Château-bottled: Perrin
Vintage note: A splendid year throughout the Rhône. Mild spring, early flowering, hot dry summer, though not as baking as in 1989 and an early harvest - mid-September in the North and from the 9th in the South. The wines were firmer and with more power than the '89s ***** Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine
Tasting note: Two great back to back vintages are the 1990 and 1989. The more developed 1990 boasts an incredible perfume of hickory wood, coffee, smoked meat, Asian spices, black cherries, and blackberries. Lush, opulent, and full-bodied, it is a fully mature, profound Beaucastel that will last another 15-20 years. 96 points. Robert Parker, eRobertparker.com #E2003, January 2003
