Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel, Hommage à Jacques Perrin--Vintage 1995
Rhône. Château-bottled: Perrin
In original wooden case, original straws and tissues
Vintage note: After the less than successful four previous vintages - blame the weather not the growers and winemakers - 1995 was a very satisfactory vintage. In the South the late September Mistral wind had a drying effect, resulting in very ripe, concentrated grapes, with good levels of tannin and acidity and said to be comparable to the '90s. The wines are worth cellaring and lovely to drink. What more can one want? ***** Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine

Tasting note: The 1995 remains tight, backward, and far less evolved than the 1998. The dense inky purple color is accompanied by a floral, blueberry, mineral, and licorice-dominated bouquet. Huge and formidably endowed, but closed, tannic, and backward, it will be at its apogee between 2010-2030 96 points. Robert Parker, eRobertParker.com E#2003, January 2003
