RUSSIAN, MAKER'S MARK N.G IN CYRILLIC, MOSCOW, 1909
His right hand raised in benediction and left his left carrying the Gospels, Christ and his Mother on clouds flanking the saint, painted realistically with white highlights in his greying beard and aged face, the cut-out halo and mitre executed in polychrome cloisonné enamel, the name plaque in champlevé, set in a glazed black kyot with a gold coloured frame, engraved on the reverse 'In commemoration of the 25 years of service from the factory of Georgy Landrin 06.12.1909'

Lot Essay

In 1848 Landrin Georg Matveevich founded a confectionery which produced rock candies and caramel. As his products gained popularity, he opened a range of sweet shops in St. Petersburg. Landrin's Confectionery was one of the major factories producing sweets, along with those of Conradi, T. Beranger, F. Balas, and was extremely popular among the people of St. Petersburg before the Revolution.
