Chancery 2o (297 x 212 mm). Collation: a6 b-h8 i10 K8 l-m8. 96 leaves. 47 lines and headline. Gothic types 1:117 (headlines, chapter headings, incipits) and 2:90. 3 columns in table, 2 columns elsewhere. Woodcut coats-of-arms, banners and vestments on ff.93-95, numerous 11-, 7- and 5-line floriated woodcut initials. Hand and six-petal flower watermarks. Late 19th- or early 20th-century red morocco gilt , edges gilt.
FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST BOOK ON HERALDRY PRINTED IN SPAIN, AND THE ONLY BOOK CONTAINING THE NAMES OF BRUN AND GENTIL AS PRINTERS
This large copy is complete with the often-lacking leaves at end with the woodcut coats-of-arms. Pedro Brun first ran a press in Barcelona, later moving to Seville. Gentil may have been merely a financial partner to Brun, who continued to print in Seville until circa 1506.
RARE: according to American Book Prices Current, only the Lyndsay-Drummond-Balfour-Kraus copy has sold at auction in the last 30 years (2000 and again in 2003).
