Lot Essay

The artist, Tang Shishu (1831-1903), a native of Jiangsu province, was an accomplished painter of flowers who painted in the style of Yun Shouping. In the 20th year of Guangxu (1894), Tang Shishu submitted a set of his flower paintings to the Dowager Empress Cixi for her appreciation.
