A WHITE JADE AND HARDSTONE EMBELLISHED REPOUSSE GILT-SILVER MIRROR
QING DYNASTY, LATE 19TH CENTURY
The reverse side of oval-shaped mirror with a reticulated white jade plaque, depicting two opposing chi dragons clambering amidst ruyi-fungus sprays, mounted within a band of gilt-silver ruyi-heads, the sloping sides decorated with the Anbaxian, Eight Daoist Emblems, each divided by an inset hardstone including jadeite, sapphire, ruby and garnet; the mirror is supported by a pair of gilt-metal butterflies attached to a handle formed by a white jade S-shaped belthook, one side terminating in the form of a dragon-head, curved to overlook an openwork chilong on the gently curved body
