MAKER'S MARK OF HANS VALENTIN LAMINIT, AUGSBURG, 1614-1616
The circular base chased with rockwork and grass, the animal on its hind legs with detachable head, marked on base with assay scrape beneath and on head

The ox was generally used as a welcome cup for the Butcher's guilds. Several examples of ox and bull cups are recorded including two by Elias Zorer circa 1590 (H. Seling, Die Kunst der Augsburger Goldschmiede 1529 - 1868, Munich, 1980, vol. 2, figs. 158 and 160).

Le taureau était en général une coupe de bienvenue pour la corporation des bouchers. Il en existe plusieurs exemplaires dont ceux par Elias Zorer daté vers 1590 (H. Seling, Die Kunst der Augsburger Goldschmiede 1529 - 1868, Munich, 1980, vol. 2, illustr. 158 et 160).
