A BRACELET OF NINE ROMAN RINGSTONES
CIRCA 1ST-2ND CENTURY A.D.
Mounted together in a late 19th century gold setting, an agate cameo in the center, carved in three layers, tan on cream on white, with a helmeted bust of Minerva in profile to the right; the intaglios, from left to right: a green jasper with Selene-Luna, a billowing velum above, a downturned torch in her hand, stars in the field; a carnelian with Fortuna; a nicolo with Harpokrates, with a two-letter inscription; a lapis lazuli with Aphrodite Anadyomene, a two-line inscription on the reverse; and to the right of the cameo: a banded agate with Jupiter, a thunderbolt in one hand, a scepter in the other; a chalcedony with Harpokrates holding a cornucopia; a lapis lazuli with Harpokrates seated on a lotus blossom above a barque; and a bloodstone with a winged Cupid standing before a column surmounted by a Nemesis griffin, an inscription in the field and on the reverse
Cameo: 1 1/16 in. (2.7 cm.) high
Bracelet: 6 7/8 in. (17.5 cm.) long, including clasp
