The heart of this remarkable piece is the calibre 31000, undeniably one of the most astonishing watchmaking creations of our time. A master creator of ultra complicated timepieces, Gérald Genta fully demonstrated his artisanship with this ultra complex movement featuring an array of complications miniature enough for the comparatively small dimensions of a wristwatch. The calibre 31000 contains over 1,000 miniscule parts with a diameter of merely 30 mm. and a thickness of 8.4 mm. Every component is hand-engraved with motifs inspired by nature.
Particularly noteworthy is the addition of the self-winding automatic mechanism, rendering the present timepiece part of an exceedingly small series of automatic "grande sonnerie" wristwatches ever made. It does not only allow the owner to choose between the grande, petite or silent strike modes, the chime is in addition the particularly appealing Westminster carillon, or Big Ben melody, striking via four hammers onto four gongs.
