A CARVED WOODEN PRIVATE ICONOSTASIS DISPLAYING THREE ICONS
19TH CENTURY
The panel on the top register showing Christ Pantokrator, followed by a Calendar Icon of the main Ecclesiastical feasts, the lowest register portraying St. Nicholas; the three images painted in detail on gold ground, set in an elaborately carved and gilded wooden frame, the Holy Spirit formed as a dove fastened on the spandrel; placed in a glazed, mahogany cabinet, its sides shaped like columns with pierced palmettes in circles above, the centre part terminating to a pinnacle, applied also with pierced decoration
Each Panel: 12½ x 10¼ in. (31 x 26 cm.)
Cabinet: 69¼ x 29½ in. (176 x 75 cm.)
