Lot Essay

We are grateful to Professor Francesco Petrucci for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs, and for pointing out that the composition is similar to Voet's Portrait of Ortensia Mancini in the Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Spinola in Genoa, and that both finally derive from the oval portrait in the collection of the Earl of Sandwich at Mapperton House (see F. Petrucci, Ferdinand Voet 1639-1689, detto Ferdinando de' Ritratti, Rome, 2005, p. 261, no. 251 and p. 193, no. 129a, fig. 8 respectively).
