Lot Essay

Sold with a photo-certificate from the Comité Marc Chagall, dated Paris, le 11 octobre 2007 and is registered under no.2007107.

Sir Thomas Monnington (1902-1976) was a painter who studied at the Slade School of Art between 1918 and 1922. During World War II, he joined the design team of the Ministry of Camouflage and was appointed an Official War Artist. He taught at the R.A. Schools, Camberwell School of Art and the Slade. In 1966 he became President of the Royal Academy.
