Lot Essay

Grant frequently sent Christmas cards to old friends and relations, particularly his Strachey cousins. This butterfly is dedicated to Dorothy (Strachey) Bussy, the translator and intimate friend of André Gide, and her husband Simon Bussy's daughter Janie.
