This monumental cupboard with its complex shaped raised and recessed panels, and profuse carved decoration is typical of the cabinet work in Danzig and Hamburg in the late 17th century. There are several comparable cupboards and design drawings in H. Kreisel Die Kunst des deutschen Möbels München, 1968, p. 230-231. Comparable pieces are also illustrated in U. Doebler, Barock Möbel, 1992, p. 92-93.
