Lot Essay

Perhaps it was inevitable in travelling so many miles for his business that Roger Warner would find a box initialled ' R W '.
Boxes of this type are often referred to as 'bible boxes'. In fact the term 'bible box' does not appear in 16th or 17th century inventories and boxes could of course be used to store almost anything, from papers and letters to writing, smoking or knitting equipment.
