Scale 1:48, with bound masts, yards, standing and running rigging and full suit of stitched linen sails, lion's head figurehead, hair rails, heads, belaying rails and pins, bitts, rope coils, anchors, catheads, deck rails, companionways, guns in carriages, two ship's boats with bottom boards, thwarts and oars in a tier, bell and canopy, seat, compass and box and many other details, finished in varnish, green and red with much 'gilded' decoration - stand

Lot Essay

The "Westfrisia" was ordered in 1666 by the Admiralty of the Northern Quarter, which included seven important trade towns in nowadays North Holland. It took part in the Battle at Solebay in the Second English War and was used hereafter as consort to VOC ships.
The present model was built on request of the Westfries Museum in Hoorn. The decoration on the stern is taken from a painting attributed to Willem van de Velde the Elder. The coat of arms of Alkmaar is missing since the council of the town had still not paid it's contribution to the original "Westfrisia" at the time of the launching
