The "Westfrisia" was ordered in 1666 by the Admiralty of the Northern Quarter, which included seven important trade towns in nowadays North Holland. It took part in the Battle at Solebay in the Second English War and was used hereafter as consort to VOC ships.
The present model was built on request of the Westfries Museum in Hoorn. The decoration on the stern is taken from a painting attributed to Willem van de Velde the Elder. The coat of arms of Alkmaar is missing since the council of the town had still not paid it's contribution to the original "Westfrisia" at the time of the launching
