A ROMAN MARBLE MALE TORSO
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY A.D.
Standing with the right leg advanced, the left pulled back, both arms lowered, the left projecting out from the body

The style of this torso is based on the so-called Diskobolos attributed to Naukydes, a follower of Polykleitos. The type is best represented in an example in the Capitoline Museums, Rome, pl. 56 in Ridgway, Fourth-Century Styles in Greek Sculpture.
